26-year-old Minnesota man Nicholas Wig is in jail for allegedly breaking into a home. Wig was caught in no small part because he logged in to his Facebook profile on the victim’s computer and forgot to log out before leaving with credit cards, cash and a watch. The thief also left a full outfit of clothes in the home, soaking wet from a rainstorm outside.

“I started to panic,” the homeowner, James Wood, said. “But then I noticed he had pulled up his Facebook profile.”

Upon discovering the alleged thief’s Facebook profile, Wood posted to Wig’s profile. Wood said that Wig had robbed him, and posted his phone number on Wig’s profile for more information. Wig himself texted Wood and the two agreed to meet, with Wig thinking he would receive his clothing back in a trade for some of the goods he stole from Wood’s home. Instead, Wood called the police on Wig, who arrested him. Wig was wearing a watch stolen from Wood’s home when he was taken into custody.

“I’ve never seen this before,” Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said. “It’s a pretty unusual case, might even make the late night television shows in terms of not being too bright.”
