An abusive man is typically frowned upon by society, even more so if he happens to be a cop. Police officers are supposed to uphold the law, not break them. Unfortunately, such is not always the case. In fact, just recently, one cop in the Philippines named Neil de Guzman was caught on video abusing his girlfriend. He is shown repeatedly slapping her and shouting swear words and threats at her. He could also be heard blaming his girlfriend for his missing money and for the fact that he had not yet been promoted. His girlfriend recorded the video covertly through her laptop’s webcam and presumably leaked it once she left the country.
The video was posted on YouTube but was deleted for violating the terms of service by depicting violence. It did not completely disappear, though, as a copy was soon uploaded to Facebook where it went viral.
There was even a Facebook page created for him sarcastically called “PO2 Neil De Guzman – Ang Magiting na Pulis” (PO2 Neil De Guzman – The Noble Cop). The page owners implored Facebook not to delete the video, as their purpose in uploading it was to seek justice for de Guzman’s victim and to bring the issue to the media’s attention.
Sure enough, the story was picked up by the local news stations and de Guzman is now under investigation. De Guzman reportedly claimed that the video had just been a “joke” and that his girlfriend (who now resides inDubai) is just using it to blackmail him. However, anyone who has seen the video will probably agree that it doesn’t look like a joke at all.
Ironically, PO2 De Guzman was up for promotion to PO3 but now that promotion has been put on hold because of this video.
