Seven months ago, Facebook announced that users would soon be able to clear their browser history connected to their Facebook profile. But as time ticked by and the “Clear History” feature still hadn’t been released, many experts grew skeptical as to whether it would ever see the light of day. However, according to a report in Recode this week, the long-promised privacy tool is finally set to arrive in spring 2019.

At the time the feature was announced, Facebook was under public scrutiny following the Cambridge Analytica data breach scandal. The company was desperately searching for a PR win, and “Clear History” was just one of the initiatives Facebook launched to win back user trust.

“This is an example of the kind of control we think you should have,” Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post last May. “It’s something privacy advocates have been asking for — and we will work with them to make sure we get it right.”

If Clear History does in fact finally launch this spring, it’ll mean you’ll be able to stop seeing those creepy ads displaying products that you’ve looked at on other sites. However, it’s important to note that it won’t stop Facebook from collecting your information. The social media giant isn’t about to give up its access to your private data that easily.
