Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Profile Attacked by Relentless Brazilian Trolls

facebook-monthly-fee1-300x202Mark Zuckerberg may be one of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in the country, but he’s still susceptible to problems that plague all Facebook users. Namely, trolling: in recent days, several public posts on Zuckerberg’s Facebook page have been under relentless attack from users, mostly Brazilian, posting strange comments, jokes and images.

It’s unclear what, if anything, is motivating the attacks, though many of the posts may be traced to a Brazilian Facebook group called “Flood that Mark.” Many of the comments on Zuckerberg’s pictures celebrate the act of trolling itself, and according to TechCrunch, one commenter on a Brazilian news site said the group was aiming to post a record number of comments. Outside of that, there appears to be no social or political goal to the mass spamming of Zuckerberg’s posts, nor does there seem to be any significance to the posts that the Brazilian trolls chose to attack. (One post from 2011 announcing Zuckerberg’s switch to a vegetarian diet has amassed 108,000 comments and counting, while one announcing his marriage has over 186,000 comments.)

While this kind of trolling is harmless enough, it’s extremely annoying to deal with, and it’s something Facebook should work hard to eliminate. In fact, trolling the founder and CEO of Facebook itself may actually prove to be the most effective way to ensure that happens.
