As a follow up to our story yesterday on the Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services’ policy of requiring applicants to provide their Facebook login credentials, that practice is now suspended pending a 45 day review.
For those of you unfamiliar with the story, Robert Collins had taken a leave of absence following the passing of his mother. Upon his return he was advised that he would have to provide his Facebook login email and password as a condition of his reinstatement.
No doubt the huge public outcry over the issue, and mounting pressure from the
Deborah Jeon, the Legal Director for the ACLU stated, “It is equivalent to a demand that officers permit the government to listen in on their personal telephone calls as a condition of employment.”
