Couple Robbed By Facebook Moving Van Hoax

word " danger " on a red shieldA young couple in the UK thought they’d found a great deal when they booked the services of a moving company they had found on Facebook. However, the alleged moving men ripped off the couple for everything they had, stealing everything but the TV they had with them in their own car.

The couple described the two movers as courteous—if not a little interested in their valuables. Before they arrived, the “movers” told the couple to pack up and clearly label all the boxes, and Becky Szenk, one of the victims of the robbery, said they took out nearly all of the most valuable boxes first.

“[They] were racing in and out of the flat,” she said. “We just thought they were being very professional. But once they drove away we didn’t see them again. Everything we own was packed into that van. We have been left with virtually nothing.”

Some of the things the thieves stole include Szenk’s wedding ring, the couple’s washing machine and even family photographs.

The couple warned others to be wary of similar scams, and not to blindly trust offers like this Facebook.

“For us it’s been a big lesson to learn,” Szenk said. “I just hope others can be more careful about trusting people they book over social media as I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.”
