Another silly Facebook hoax is spreading virally across the platform. We have received numerous reports containing the following message:
“From Saturday morning facebook will become chargeable. If you have at least 10 contacts send them this message. In this way we will see that you are an avid user and your logo will become blue (
) and will remain free. (As discussed in the paper today. Facebook will cost 0.01ps per message. Send this message to 10 people. When you do the light will turn blue otherwise facebook will activate billing.”

A number of statements in this message should tip you off that your dealing with a hoax.
- The grammar alone is suspect, and this is pretty typical for several hoaxes like this
- Facebook would not require you to send a message like this to at least 10 people. Anything remotely resembling a chain letter should be avoided and not shared.
- Facebook is free and always will be. They would not charge for features available on the platform.
- If this were legitimate, it would be major news on all mainstream media outlets. Just because the message says that it was in the paper, doesn’t make it true.
Always do a little research before blindly sharing crap like this on Facebook. Your friends will be glad and it could save you some embarrassment.
