MN man faces up to 30 years for Facebook escapade with 13-year-old

teen_girlFargo, ND – Darrin Roy Anderson, 35 is facing up to 30 years in prison for contacting a 13-year-old girl via Facebook and having sex with her.

Anderson appeared in U.S. District Court in Fargo this past Wednesday and pleaded guilty to a federal charge of travel to engage in illicit sexual contact.

Court records indicate that Anderson traveled from Walhalla, N.D. to East Grand Forks, MN to have sex with a 13-year-old girl. He had agreed to pay her $300.00 for the escapade.

Originally, Anderson created the alias of “Tyler Anderson” to initiate contact with the girl. He later introduced the girl to Darrin – Tyler’s “cousin.”

Anderson then sent the victim text messages and eventually arranged the deal where he would pay for sexual favors. The girls brought a 14-year-old friend with her because she was afraid to meet Anderson alone. The friend waited in the bathroom while the sexual transaction took place.

The incident was soon reported to the East Grand Forks Police Department. Authorities interviewed the victim and then obtained search warrants for Anderson’s Facebook profile and chat logs. Police investigators also searched the hotel where the incident took place. They found that Darrin Anderson had checked into the hotel and signed a credit card receipt using his real identity.

Information garnered by Facebook reveals that Anderson used the false identity to initiate chats with hundreds of adolescent girls.

Anderson will be sentenced on May 2nd.
