Parents name their Kid after the Like Button

like_button_05-11You know that it’s time to keep away from the social networking site Facebook if you’re considering naming your child after a Facebook feature. And yet, this is exactly what Lior Adler and his wife, Vardit, decided to do. The couple wanted a name that was ‘unique’, and ‘Like’ apparently fit the bill. “It’s modern and innovative”, said the child’s father. The name was, of course, lifted from Facebook’s like feature. He considers the name to be the modern equivalent of “Ahava”, which means love. “It’s just my way of saying to my fantastic daughter, ‘love’.”

Sure enough, when their little bundle of joy was born, they posted her picture on Facebook and got 40 likes. Now, that amount won’t seem like much, but considering how Lior Adler only has a little over a hundred friends, 40 is quite an impressive number; Like certainly generated a lot of Likes on her first foray into the world.

Little Like won’t feel like the odd one out, however, since her siblings also have very unusual names. One of them is named Pie and the other Dvash. Whether she will appreciate the name her parents chose for her or not remains to be seen, but we won’t know the answer for another, oh, give or take ten years.

At least her lot isn’t as bad as little Facebook, who lives in Egypt. Of course, the name was something of a political statement and was chosen to commemorate the role of the social networking site in Egypt’s struggles. Still, it’s pretty hard to imagine calling someone ‘Facebook’ or ‘Like’, no matter what good intentions may be behind the name.
