Man Posts Facebook Ad and Gets Robbed After Meeting with Buyers

This is another reminder of why you should not conduct business with strangers that you meet on social networking sites like Facebook.

A man in Houston who posted an ad on his Facebook account to sell an iPad tablet for $400 fell into the hands of robbers. The two alleged criminals, who were identified as Devontta Dorsey, 18, and Darrell Wayne Broussard, 17 were later caught and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

The victim reported that he received a text from an interested buyer on June 25, 2012. He agreed to meet the buyer, who later turned out to be Dorsey and Broussard, at Miller Intermediate School located at 15000 block of Westpark early in the evening that day.

At the meeting place, he handed Broussard the iPad expecting to receive the payment, but Broussard told Dorsey that it is time to leave without giving any indication of paying for the item. The victim demanded payment from the two suspects, but instead of handing the money, Broussard pulled a hand gun and pointed it at the victim. He also demanded the man’s wallet and took $100 cash from it.

The suspects also took the victim’s backpack from his car, but left it after realizing that the bag was empty.

The police, who have investigated an identical case before, immediately recognized the robbers as Dorsey and Broussard based on the modus operandi and the description provided by the victim. The victim positively identified the two men in the police lineup, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects.
