Facebook Launches “Year in Review” Feature for 2012 for All Users

year_in_reviewFacebook has launched a Year in Review” feature on Facebook Stories that catalogues the most talked about public figures, songs, movies and more on the site this year. With the advent of Facebook Places this year, the site was also able to rank the most checked-in places of 2012. (Times Square, followed by Disneyland and AT&T Park in California, if you’re curious.)

Some of the other most talked-about things on Facebook this year? The top five events, in order: the U.S. presidential election, the Super Bowl, Whitney Houston’s death, Superstorm Sandy and the London Olympics. The most discussed and shared movies were “The Hunger Games,” “The Avengers” and “Magic Mike,” while the most popular songs were “We Are Young” by Fun., “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye and “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Facebook also took the “Year in Review” feature from the macro level down to the micro: users can now see their own personal top 20 events from the year at Facebook.com/yearinreview. It will show you your most popular posts, highlighted stories and even major life events like breakups (or make-ups, presumably). Sites like Twitter and Google released similar standings, though Facebook’s intimate and intense knowledge of your personal life makes their “Year in Review” slightly more up close and creepy. But hey, if you’d like to see a neat summary presented to you of how your 2012 went, then here is the link: Facebook.com/yearinreview.
