Facebook named most popular blacklisted website

websecurityA research report from Open DNS was released today, and Facebook was named as the most blacklisted website – oddly enough it was named as the second most whitelisted site also. 14 percent of companies that blacklist (block) websites site Facebook as a primary on their list. MySpace came in at 10 percent and YouTube at 8 percent. Twitter, on the hand, was only blacklisted by 2 percent.

Other blacklisted sites are pretty much no-brainers: pornography (85%), sexuality (80%) and sites deemed to be “tasteless” (77%) were top categories in the report.

For companies using social media and the internet for marketing, customer engagement and other business activities, YouTube, Facebook and Gmail ranked highest in organizational use.

Paypal was the big winner hands down when it comes to phishing. 46 percent of phishing sites were spoofing Paypal. Facebook came in at a distant second at only 5%. The United States was cited as the most popular country for the hosting of spoof sites. 53 percent of all such sites are located in the U.S.
