Facebook AI Leaks Online And Gets Used To Create Offensive Chatbot

These days, many tech companies are investing in artificial intelligence technology that can be used to build powerful chat bots, and Facebook is no exception. However, after the social media giant released its language model called LLaMa to a select group of researchers and government officials, it leaked on 4chan. Then, troublemaking users used this AI technology to build an offensive chat bot that says outlandish things, including that it’s okay to use the n-word to describe someone with bad intentions.

Of course, this early edition of the language model doesn’t reflect how the final one will work, and the company will ultimately rein in answers like this. However, it’s troubling how easily Facebook could lose control of its own technology.

“We have made clear that the LLaMA foundational models were released by Meta for the purposes of research only,” A Facebook spokesperson told VICE. “In line with industry practices, if we find a suspected violation of the LLaMA research license we investigate.”

While this leak isn’t ultimately Facebook’s fault, it illustrates how harmful the company’s technology can be if it falls into the wrong hands.
