Facebook and Other Meta Owned Properties Suffer Mass Outage

Many users feared the worst when they were automatically logged out and subsequently locked out of their Facebook accounts. It was easy to assume that accounts had been hacked. Attempts to log back in and reset user passwords were unsuccessful.

Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, took to X and posted the following: “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

For future reference, it is a good idea to check a website like Down Detector when you lose access to a website or online service. If other users are reporting similar issues, then your account is likely uncompromised.

Now that the freak out is over for most, if not all, users, it’s a good idea to check up on your account security. Make sure you have two-factor authentication enabled and a strong password in place.
