Facebook Gets Called Out By New iOS For Location Tracking

Facebook and Apple are two of the largest tech companies in the world, and their relationship has often been contentious. The bad feelings are likely to continue after Apple’s latest iOS update, which is causing users’ phones to warn when Facebook is tracking their location.

To get ahead of Apple’s software update, Facebook published a blog post last week attempting to explain its location tracking practices and calm down worried users. In its post, Facebook emphasized that it lets users control whether their device shares precise location data with Facebook, and also who can see your location data.

“If you are using iOS 13, you will begin to receive notifications about when an app is using your precise location in the background and how many times an app has accessed that information,” Facebook warned. However, it’s Facebook itself that is the main offender. After all, it isn’t Apple’s fault that Facebook is snooping on us; the other tech giant is merely calling out what Facebook is doing.

However, even though Facebook’s privacy controls represent a small measure of privacy, they’re still better than nothing. So if you’re still using the platform and want to stop the company from spying on you, it’s best to turn them on.
