Facebook Glitch Sent Friend Request To Any Profile You Visited

Facebook is no stranger to unfortunate glitches that scare its users into thinking they’ve been hacked. However, the one that happened this week might take the cake. According to multiple reports, a strange bug in Facebook’s system was automatically sending friend requests to any profile a user viewed.

“We fixed a bug related to a recent app update that caused some Facebook friend requests to be sent mistakenly,” a Facebook spokesperson told The Daily Beast. “We’ve stopped this from happening and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

While Facebook framed this as an “inconvenience,” the ramifications are of course far worse. After all, who wants every profile they visit to know that they’re snooping?

“Facebook letting your stalkers be known today!” one user posted, while another said, “Surely this is a privacy issue!” Indeed, this glitch could be framed as a major privacy violation for users whose online behavior has now been broadcast to the world. Thankfully Facebook acted quickly to fix the problem, but it’s still a startling reminder of just how much Facebook controls our online lives. With one simple bug, you can have way more info about yourself become public than you ever wanted.
