This week, Facebook parent company Meta announced that it will no longer require a Facebook login for users to access the metaverse and its other virtual reality product offerings. Not only is this a clear indicator of the company’s vision for future growth, but it’s also a big win for users concerned with their private data being shared across these platforms.
In addition to introducing a new Meta login system, the company is also rolling out new privacy features to VR users to make it easier to control who they interact with.
“We want to let you control who you interact with in VR and build your own community,” Meta wrote in a blog post announcing this update. “As part of this update, you’ll now find a menu with three privacy options to help guide you through which privacy settings are the best fit for you: Open to Everyone, Friends and Family, and Solo. After you make your selection, you’ll have the opportunity to review and confirm your individual privacy settings are set the way you want them.”
This may seem like a small change in the grand scheme of the social media giant, but the more privacy-friendly tweaks that the company makes, the better the overall user experience will become.
