New Facebook Privacy Setting Lets You Ask For Your Data Not To Be Used For AI Training

It’s no secret that Facebook gathers tons of your data to support its business model of targeted advertising. However, the company also uses our information for its own purposes, such as training its artificial intelligence models. Thankfully, this week, Facebook quietly rolled out a new privacy feature that will let users ask the company to stop using their info to train AI.

In Facebook’s Help Center, the new privacy tool is called Generative AI Data Subject Rights. “This form is where you can submit requests related to your third-party information being used for generative AI model training,” the page reads. From there, you can tell Facebook you want to download or access your data, delete your personal information, or write your own response to the company. From there, it’s unclear how Facebook will proceed.

The idea of “rights” when it comes to your data is new for the company, and it could be that it introduced this feature for users who live in countries with stronger data privacy laws. In other words, Facebook may end up ignoring our requests to stop using our info for its AI. However, it’s still worth exploring to see what ultimately comes of it.
