Scam Type: Like Jacking – Survey Scam – Premium Services

Trending: December 2010

Why it’s a Scam:

Once you click on the Wall Post link, you are taken to the following page:

Most survey scams use a rogue Facebook application to like jack your account and spread their message across Facebook. This one is not as sophisticated. This scam requires you to “like” and “share” the page. Doing this obviously populates your newsfeed with the very same wall post that got you here in the first place. The next step you must complete is to print their message 7 times or to click the “DOWNLOAD” button. We clicked the download and were taken to the following screen:

As you can probably guess, you don’t get the 240 points as promised. The only thing you might get is a computer virus from the download or some of your friends ragging on you for spreading the scam to them. 🙂 This is your typical survey scam that is very popular on Facebook these days. They promise goodies that they don’t deliver, or they try to lure you in with shocking content. Don’t fall for their tricks, don’t download anything to your computer and don’t give them any more of your personal information.

How to Deal with the Scam:

If you did make the mistake of “liking” and “sharing” the page with your friends, you should clean-up your newsfeed and profile to remove references to the scam. (click the “x” in the top right hand corner of the post).

If you or your Facebook friends are falling for tricks like this, it’s time to get yourself informed of the latest threats. Be sure to join the Facecrooks page on Facebook to be kept informed of the latest security issues. Also check out:
