Why it’s a Scam:

When you click on the scam page link, you must complete a sequence of events before being taken to a youtube video about the nastiness of McDonald’s food.

1. You have to like the Fan Page.

2. You have to Share the link to the fan page.

3. You have to post the following twice on Facebook: “How could anyone still eat McDonald’s food after seeing this – McDsDisturbingFacts.info.”

If you complete the above steps, you have given an app called “The Horrible Truth” access to your profile, your wall and the ability to email you directly. This application can be used to spread spam, malware or anything else the program designer desires through your Facebook account and contacts.

How to Deal with the Scam:

If you did make the mistake of granting access to the rogue application, you should immediately clean up your newsfeed and remove the application from your Application Settings. To access your “Application Settings,” click “Account” in the top right hand corner. You will then see “Application Settings” as an option in the list.
