Scam Signature Message: Hey I just received 50000 FB Credits from Facebooks only giving away 10 more so hurry!!!
Scam Type: Possible Survey Scam & Malware
Trending: March 2011
Why it’s a Scam:
Free Facebook Credit offers are some of the most popular scams on Facebook. We know very little about this scam at this time, but we can safely assume that the offer is bogus and a survey scam and / or malware infestation is the likely end game. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and Facebook is no exception. Be suspect of any “free” offers on Facebook.
How to Deal with the Scam:
Due to the scam being spread via Facebook Chat, it is likely due to a rogue application. The infected user will need to locate and remove the Facebook application. Go through your list of installed applications and look for one that lists “Access Facebook Chat” as one of the required permissions. You also need to access your privacy settings and remove the application from your list of approved Facebook applications. (Account/ Privacy Settings/ Applications and Websites.)
If you made the mistake of submitting your cell phone number for any of the surveys, then you should contact your carrier immediately to keep any bogus charges from appearing.
