Why it’s a Scam:
The title of this web page is, “registration center on facebook.” The user is asked to confirm his/her Facebook account and the following message is displayed: “Please verify your account to remove all the allegations about your account that have been reported by other users.” This is a phishing attempt on the part of the scammer. They are trying to gain login credentials to the user’s email account. If the user is fooled and enters the requested information the following screen is displayed:
When you click the “Select your mail provider” box, a drop down menu appears with the following options: Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, Other. Imagine the damage the hacker could wreck by gaining access to a user’s primary email account. If the user continues, the following screen is displayed:
If you enter your password email, then you are taken to the following screen:
How to Deal with the Scam:
If you did make enter your primary email credentials into the form, then you need to take action immediately. Try to login to your compromised account change the password. If you can’t contact the help center of your email provider and advise them of your situation. Depending on what other data is contained in your email account, you may need to take additional action to secure banking or other sensitive account information.
