Scam Type: Like Jacking – Cell Phone Premium Content
Trending: October 2010
Why it’s a Scam:
Once you click on the Wall Post, you are taken to the scam link listed above. This page appears to have an imbedded YouTube video. Clicking on the supposed YouTube clip instead takes you to an IQ Quiz. At the end of the quiz, you are asked to submit your cell phone number to receive the results of the quiz. We decided to stop here, but after reading the fine print of the user agreement, you are actually subscribing to premium content from the scammer, and you could see charges appear on your bill.
How to Deal with the Scam:
If you did make the mistake of passing the link onto your friends, you should clean-up your newsfeed and profile to remove references to the all of the page referenced above. If you made the mistake of submitting your cell phone number, then you should contact your carrier immediately to keep any bogus charging from appearing.
