Facebook hits 500 Million Users

Social-Media-News-AFacebook announced hitting the 500 million mark in terms of registered users this past week, and will celebrate by launching Facebook Stories, a marketing plan that will allow every single user(from all of the 500 million users)to tell the whole world about Facebook’s influence on their lives.

It has been just a year since Facebook acquired 25 million users. Facebook was launched in Feb 2004 and is now one of the most visited websites on the internet. And Facebook mobile users are a staunch community of 140 million users, an increase of over 50% over April’s 100 million mobile users.

Mobile might easily be a levering factor in Facebook sales. At Venturebeat’s MobileBeat conference earlier this month Erick Tseng, Facebook’s head of mobile products, declared. “As we begin to continue to expand, we’re starting to go into geographies where phones are the predominant way you access the web”.

According to Kara Swisher of All Things Digital, the Facebook Stories will be neatly classified by geography and themes like “finding love” “Natural disasters” or “falling in love”. Users will be able to link their stories to their Facebook profiles so that its 50 million users can read and mark them” Like”.

The way Facebook sees it all was neatly summed up by Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg, Director of Marketing, in an interview with Swisher. “In the past, it’s been all about the numbers and milestones and we realized we had never taken the opportunity to celebrate users.”
