Apple Co-Founder Slams Facebook For Privacy Flaws

The ongoing feud between Apple and Facebook escalated even further this week when Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak blasted the social media giant for its privacy and data practices.

In a recent interview, Wozniak said that both he and his wife recently deactivated their Facebook accounts over data privacy concerns. He also expressed a worry that Facebook is dangerously habit forming. Overall, he said, he was concerned about the amount of access Facebook had to his life.

“Of all Big Tech, Facebook is probably No. 1 that I don’t like,” he said. “I read how it can still grab data and [send it] to Facebook, even when you’re not using the [platform]. I don’t believe this is right, because you should [be] honest, [so that] that every person who uses it knows what they’re doing.”

Instead of using Facebook, Wozniak said that he and his family share all their photos via iCloud because “nobody can take the data and find out everything you’re doing.” He went on to say that if Apple can provide this service for only a few dollars a month, then Facebook has no excuse not to introduce a model where users can pay for privacy. Of course, Facebook has long prided itself on being a free service, so it’s unlikely this will happen. However, it’s hard to argue with Wozniak’s logic here.
