Why it’s a Scam:
Clicking the link on the Facebook wall post takes you to the following screen:
This should be a huge red flag to you! A common ploy of scammers and malware distributors is to trick users into installing a bogus video players, flash upgrades or plugins. We clicked the install plugin and luckily Firefox blocked a plugin from being automatically installed. We stopped here, and we advise you to do the same. Many users are reporting malware infections on their system from this scam.
How to Deal with the Scam:
If you follow the scam through to its completion, then you are likely spreading the very same scam message to your friends. They will need to remove the scam message by clicking the small “X” located in the top right hand corner of the post on their wall. You also need to run a complete system scan on your machine to make sure the code didn’t infect your system. Another good idea is to check your web browser to see if you have any rogue browser extensions / plugins installed and remove anything suspect.
