Facebook Updates Its Privacy Policy And Releases New Tools

Facebook often touts the range of privacy tools that it offers its users. However, its policies can be difficult for the average person to understand. That’s why this week, Facebook’s parent company Meta announced that it has redesigned and reworded its privacy policy to make it easier for users to read. This new simplified policy includes shorter sentences, more images and videos, and specific case examples. The company also rolled out a few new privacy tools, including making it easier for users to select the default audience for their posts.

“Inspired by feedback from people who use our technologies and privacy experts, we rewrote our Privacy Policy to make it easier to understand and to reflect the latest products we offer,” Meta Chief Privacy Officer Michel Protti wrote in a blog post announcing the change. “While the text looks different in many places, Meta is not collecting, using or sharing your data in new ways based on this policy update and we still do not sell your information.”

While Facebook may not be collecting your data in any “new ways,” it’s still obviously hoovering up as much of your information as possible. So while the social media giant’s shiny new privacy policy may look different, it still has the same fundamental issues that it always has.
