Scam Signature Message: Just applied for my own @facebook.com email account, get one before someone takes your name [bit.ly]
Alternate Message: OMG claim your FB email
Scam Type: Phishing
Trending: March 2011
Why it’s a Scam:
Clicking on the Wall Post link takes you to the following page:
If you look carefully, you will see that the URL is smbminute[dot]com/1/www.facebook[dot]com/email/. If you are ever prompted to enter your Facebook login information after clicking a link, it is essential that you take a second and verify that you are on the Facebook domain. Facebook will never direct you to a third party site and ask you to login.
You don’t have to sign up for a custom Facebook email address. You can activate your optional Facebook email address via a setting in Facebook Messages: http://www.facebook.com/about/messages/.
